The restless shall go and the faithful shall stay

Every year, the city where I live holds a Winter Festival.  These snow sculptures are created for the last weekend of the festival, right next to the King Trapper stage, where we go every year to watch my boyfriend's father compete.

Anyhow, the sculptures this year were the best ones I've seen so far, so I had to share them.

I didn't make these, I don't know how they're made, and I don't know who made them (or even if it was more than one person).  All I know is that they're awesome.  And that I got frostbite on my hand while taking the pictures.

Teepee

The teepee is actually hollow, kids can walk right inside it.

Dolphins

Flying eagle

Brave on horse with buffalo

Linked hands

There was also a castle, but that one's pretty popular with the kids; they climb all over it, so it was pretty trashed by the time I got there.

Funny, I never realized until I posted these that there's a bear standing on the Elder's right shoulder.

That is some serious preg_replace('/(.{19})/', '$1 ', 'snow.......beautiful') work.  We don't get that much snow down south.

It was so cold when I was taking the pictures that I didn't look too closely at any of them, I just ran around taking pictures as fast as possible.  Cheesy

Not more than a day for all of them.  I noticed they started carving them Friday night, and they're ready for Saturday afternoon.

Oh! You are bringing back memories of my childhood. I used to live in Alaska. We had Fur Rendezvous to celebrate along with the the Iditarod. We have pictures of the snow sculptures too! These are fantastic!

Oh, it is SOOOO nice to see someone putting these up on craftster! I saw the words "King Trapper" and was like "No... it couldn't possibly be someone from my town..." But you're not, you're only a little ways away. This was the first year I wasn't at home for the Trapper's Festival!

I love it when it's ice/snow sculpture season! These are definately better than the ones I see in my small hometown, and they make me miss the ones I used to see in Lake Louise  Smiley
