I am sending my questionnaire after work today  Smiley

I too am from Maine and in season (May through November) I go to a farm to get pretty much everything we need.  This winter I am going to a farmer's market (in Bath) that covers the basics (veggies, cheese, poultry) for us.

I can't wait for rhubub and asparagus!

Oooh! Where/when is the Farmer's Market in Bath? I'm not so far away... (Boothbay). I pass through or near Bath every so often.
Where are you?

I am near Augusta.  The farmers market is the first and third Saturday of the month from 9 to 12 (so there is one this weekend) and is at a church near Shaws.  I will look for the link . . .
http://www.bathfarmersmarket.com/indexWin08.html
Our normal farm is there (Goransons) and we get our poultry and cheese (cow/sheep/goat) and apples there.  There is also mushrooms, goat, beef, eggs, pork, baked goods (borealis breads as well as others) and sometimes has a maker of dog treats and another with yarn and hats.

I don't come towards Boothbay so often but we occasionally go to the coop in Damariscotta and go to Rockland or through Bath to get to Reid or Popham.

I have been meaning to take my kiddos over to Pemaquid (maybe if it is above 30 with the wind chill it will happen one of these weekends).

I'm originally from Caribou and this summer we'll be taking a small vacation in Old Orchard Beach, after my graduation from grad school in Vermont. Smiley

This is going to be a fun swap! I just sent in my questionnaire and look forward to seeing what comes out of the group.

Wow!  So many Maine connections!  Mr. Boot and I often talk about finding an ideal community where we can go for a few months every summer, and Maine always seems like it would be perfect.  We want to be somewhere that has a vegetarian or health food restaurant, a bookstore, and water (any kind--lake, sea, whatever) within walking or biking distance--and of course a farmer's market would be perfect!  I'm sure all of you who actually live there hate all those summer people!  Smiley

I'm thinking about joining this swap. It would fit me actually because I'm working on a farmer's market, selling lovely fruit and vegetables.

We tolerate the summer people  Smiley  Smiley  Smiley all those tourist dollars you know.

I don't mind summer people or the extra traffic but I live a little bit away from most of it.  When I lived downeast (Acadia/Bar Harbor) I tended to go away for the summer as a ten minute commute turned in to at least an hour and a half at the wrong time of day.

I think the water/vegetarian rest./health food store/bookstore is certainly doable here in Maine . . . Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Rockland/Camden, Portland all come to mind although I am sure there are many other areas that would fit your requirements oneredboot.

Wow, this is an interesting idea for a swap. We don't really have a regular local farmers market. It's always something along the lines of third Saturday of the month or something more obscure, but I make sure to go to my local farmshop, sells stuff from the field right outside.  Grin

I also tend to hunt down any farmers market near to the live roleplaying events I go to so that I can buy farmers market stuff for putting on the fire. We're the envy of the entire camp.

Will consider this and maybe sign up later in the week when I've had a think about it.
