Oh i hope im not too late!! i had so much trouble last night trying to upload photos that i quit.
anyway-
i found this groovey old postcard depicting one of my favorite things in Ogden Utah.
the welcome sign- that reads "IT PAYS TO LIVE IN OGDEN"
i thought I would embelish it with some other things Ogden is known for:
1- dinosaurs. they have this great dinosaur park here with fake dinosaurs that growl and scare the **** out of little kids. Utah in general is known for it's fossles.
2- trains. Not far from Ogden is the GOLDEN SPIKE where the east and west railroads met. Ogden was a railroading town back in the day, and even though the Mormons had their influence here, as well as the rest of Utah, ogden has always been very heavily influenced by the influx of railroad workers. It was a hopping cultural bed- wild live music, and great restauraunts- also, the rumors exist of the speakeasies that existed underneith the city. of course you wont find much about that on wikapedia.
which brings us to...
3- prostitutes- i hesitated to put this on- because its not an accurate picture of Ogden today. but i did want to make a nod to a time when Ogden was kind of seen as the red light district of Utah.
(plus, i thought she worked really well with the sign)
4- Harold and Maude. One of the claims to fame for my fair city, is that it was the original home to the director of coincidentally, one of my all time favorite films. Hal Ashby was born here, and i like to think that the quirky influence of this place may have indirectly made that movie what it was.
Ok, a postcard vision of this city that i love.
the city that has the nosiness of a small town, but all the dirt of a big city.
