I love my block athenamat!  That is awesome.  I made another block testing a technique from my fabric yesterday. 




I also made a block for BertaBerta today!  It is a little scrappy.  It looks a little wonky in the picture, but I promise it is 12.5 square!

Your block for yourself is really pretty Audrey.  I couldn't see a block like that in my mind.  The colors were so bright that I couldn't see tones.  I have got to stray from the more standard calico-esque prints in my usual quilting pallet.  What's the new technique?

And ooh I love the scrappy look of the block you made BertaBerta.

And Berta, that is SO cool that that is applique.  I just learned a new awesome technique from you

Thanks athenamat!  I was trying paper piecing for the first time.  I was not going to try that on someone else's block for the first time!  It only took a couple of redo's and I am glad that I have extra fabric of mine due to that.  I will use that block again in the swap because I like it, and I have figured out how much fabric you need of individual colors now.   I tend to think of colors in warm and cool instead of light and dark, but I think that is because it is how I paint.  It is hard for me to think light and dark sometimes as a result.

i eventurally did go to sleep, at about 10:30 last night...i just woke up it was hellish, and i dont get it at all

im starting on my blocks though ( i forgot i had another swap to do last night lol) as soon as i get some cold water and some breakfast, then i get to join these lovely ranks

Audrey, I hope you take this in good spirit   I'm saying it only because it's your first paper piecing.

Your block is absolutely perfect and the points are perfect on the edges.  However, when it's sewn together, and you lose the 1/4" each side seam allowance, the points will be cut off   When you do the paper piecing, the block they show you the finished size.  You should add 1/4" to each edge and leave the fabric hanging over the far to be sure you keep the points.  Does that make sense?    I love your block and wouldn't say this unless you had said it was your first time.  And I have a lot to learn too, but I just noticed that and wanted to tell you before you made more

i am trying to design all the blocks myself...i spend hours sktching them out, its uber fun, some are traditional blockish, like the same general idea
