My hometown is Bossier City, Louisiana. Whenever possible I try to make it home to the Mardi Gras parades in Shreveport/Bossier. This is the hat and gloves that I crocheted to wear to Mardi Gras this February.
A while back I got a super stash of several, what i call, chi-chi yarns for cheap
when Garden Ridge stopped carrying craft stuff.
The yarn is strips of fleece sort of in shades of purple, green, and gold: the Mardi Gras colors, symbolic of justice, faith, and power. I always intended to use the yarn for something fun for Mardi Gras, but the hat was almost a UFO when the orange seemed much more predominant than it did on the skein. But this year Mardi Gras, which moves because it is based on the date of Easter, was earlier than it has been in a really long time- the very beginning of February. I finished the hat, well then I needed gloves to match. The hat has a ponytail hole just for fun. But the gloves have holes, meaning they're fingerless, because I am completely useless when wearing gloves and I had to be able to catch things. Throw Me Something Mister!

Godspell was Mardi Gras themed and was designed to match the vest my mom made that I'm have on.)

I have a feather boa that I wear to the parades, but you can't just walk around DFW like that, so I made a scarf when I got back to Texas. It's kind of freestyle with a couple of embellishments from my stash. It's a little quirky, but I like it and it makes me think a little of Mardi Gras beads.
