Ok, I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Most people just think of the beach when considering my home town; don't get me wrong, our beaches are lovely, but not nearly all we have to offer.

Within half an hour either of each other are the bright blue and gold beach and the lush sub-tropical rainforest. I love that! Also, our wildlife is spectacular.

So, as a homage to my town you have 'Green and Gold' Acrylic on canvas, completely handmade. Even the frame. Size approx 120 cm x 60 cm.



Left side: the Natural Arch. A natural bridge of stone carved from eons of water, about 30 mins from me in the Springbrook National Park. link



Middle: Rainbow lorikeet. Local and sometimes annoying little buggers  . Can be found everywhere - beach to rainforest. link Yes, you can have them as pets but only from registered breeders and NOT from the wild (as some people do  )



Right side: 'The Spit' surf beach famous for its enormous sand pumping jetty reaching far out into the sea and where many a fisherman has spent long hours trying to catch something brag-able  . our beaches



The scene is a blend of the best of the Gold Coast's environment and includes natural and manmade phenomena. Bringing the two halves together is a native parrot flying from the shady confines of the rainforest to the buffeting expanse of the surf.

This came out beautifully! I love the shape of canvas that you chose, the long rectangle adds a nice sense of drama to your painting!

Lol, thanks! It is a beautiful place and hard to believe just how populated the city is too. People think we are some little beachy town but boy, do those tourists know how to infiltrate  .... and then they stay.

I love the shape of canvas that you chose,

I wanted something to compliment the panoramic view and I never would have foud a ready-made one. So off I went to the hardware store for some cheap pine and the canvas is a heavy-weight thrift store sheet that I primed with ceiling white. Much cheaper than store nought and made to order! Plus it's a nice deep box frame, not a thin one.

Beaautiful piece!  I love the shape of your canvas, the design of the painting and the vibrant colors you incorporated.

Newest Projects From All Categories takes a little while to update.  If you checked immediately after you posted, it probably wasn't there yet.  I'll check to make sure all the gears are turning properly just in case, though!

Do any search for Australian native birds (or wildlife) and you can see just how amazing some of them are. Although just like any other place you sometimes have a really hard time seeing them in the wild, threats of extinction suck  . I am still waiting to see a wild platypus but it's probably for the best since I'd probably try to cuddle it and end up getting poisoned  .

I wanted to compliment your painting ability. You have great drawing ability with both natural images and human-built structures, plus the painting is beautiful. I don't know if you ever seriously considered a career in illustration but you certainly have the talent!

I have considered illustration but I am not someone who just conjures stuff up out of thin air really quick. I pour over reference photos and sketch my design before finally settling on the final piece. I guess illustration to me is really talented artists who can sketch out a picture real quick first time round and have it look great! The only exception is when I'm sketching out tattoo designs or the like, then I do a draft and copy it onto a fresh piece of paper for the final. I suppose I am getting a little quicker and less messy, after learning how to use gouache you get the idea pretty quickly about only drawing onto watercolour paper once - without erasures!

I actually have some ideas for my art so hopefully you will see some new ideas on Craftster soon...

I love it. It may be Gold Coast (where I have never been), but it still screams Australia to me. I may be going to the Gold Coast for a holiday in a few months - now I'm really really looking forward to it!!
