Poppies are my absolute favourite flowers, but the only poppy related item I own is a necklace that my great-grandmother passed down to me, which is what sparked my poppy-love in the first place. I decided that this situation needed immediate rectification, so, a poppy hair-clip! It's crushed velvet, burnt round the edges. Super easy to do, and it looks lovely.

Very nice!
Poppies are cool. I made a poppy needlepoint once, from a kit.

Do you mean that you burnt it around the edges yourself?

That looks beautiful, it probably looks amazing in.  I love poppies myself, and am in the works to get them tattooed on my shoulders.   Smiley

Yup, burnt round the edges myself. And, impressively, the fabric was the only thing I burnt!

I'd like a poppy tattoo, but I need to have a good long thing about designs and placement!

That's gorgeous, does the colour variate as it does in the photo?  Also, did you use interfacing to make the fabric stiffer?

The colour doesn't variate exactly, but with crushed velvet it always gives off funny reflections like that! I didn't use interfacing, but burning the edges stiffened them up enough to hold the rest of the fabric in the right shape (rather than it flopping over.)

I have recently fallen in love w/ poppies myself. I have found all of these nifty ones on etsy but I think I could do it myself. What did you use to burn the edges? a lighter? a candle? a match? I'm a little nervous to expriment my self. ;P
