Thanks, everybody! I had a good time making it. I want to see yours, too!

Others I've thought of:

sock monkey
bird
key-chain tape measure (they have short ones on keychains at Hancock Fabrics but they're square and tiny)
Huh

What ideas do YOU have? Roll Eyes

polKadOt_iT , Thanks! I hope she likes it!

Some of y'all saying you'd never heard of anyone covering a tape measure made me wonder where on earth I got the idea. I'm not very original, so I know it must have come from somewhere.  So, I searched and found some other kinds of covers on etsy! I don't think I got the idea from any of these, but it's been done before, lots of ways. None of these are mine, so I guess it's okay to list them. (Please advise if it's not!)

Lookie at all the methods of covering one! Grin!

Hey, MonkeyThumb!!! A crochet sock monkey where you pull the ear to get the tape! Smiley

adorable!

And I *just* chucked my carry-with-me tape measure because the spring wore out.  All the time I had it, it never ceased to amaze me how often people would say "you carry a measure with you? how clever!"

I can only imagine how excited they would get seeing something like this -  Tongue

Thanks for the neat idea~!

What a great and ingenious idea! It's decorative and still functional, that's a big plus.
Now that my tape measures have seen it, they want cozies too.  Grin

I don't see what you mean by "the stitching does not line up" so it can't be that bad Wink

Question: How important do you think it is to the overall attractiveness to have the stitching on the sides lined up? I notice that I did a reaaaally bad job of making them match. Does it matter?
Other Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

I didn't even notice til I read your question. Smiley I'd say it is a nice touch, but doesn't really matter. I love the looks of that. Plus, I bet she won't loose it now - the way I always loose mine...  Cheesy
