If you guys like the concept of DIY lamps, I urge you to buy Nomadic Furniture 2. Actually, these books (there are two) are an absolute dream come true for DIY and sustainability freaks. Frankly, I'm surprised you can still buy them (used and inexpensive). No, it doesn't include patterns but it has illustrations of many fold up pleated lampshades made of plastic (no reason you can't make them out of firm paper, I use oaktag, pattern paper used in the garment industry). Other than lamps, both books are chock full of DIY and sustainability projects you can make out of repurposed materials with minimal tools.

I have a huge library, most of it non-fiction. So large I actually use library software and a bar code reader to organize and label all of my books. Of them all, I consider these two to be within the top 20 books I own. If they were irreplaceable and my house were burning down and I could only carry out ten books, I'd take these.

those are called lightbulb cord- or inline cords. they are less than 10 $ - your lamp looks small- i would just be careful that my lightbulb set wasnt too big or too hot- and melt your shade.... hope this helps!

ahh thank you! super helpful! i realized afterward that i should have taken a scale picture. but it is defiantly large enough with a diametere of close to 15 inches or so and i plan to use the energy efficient bulbs that don't produce as much heat. thanks again!

Looks cool.

Try Ikea for a light bulb on a cord.  They have colored cords now that would match your creation. And they have different size fluorescent bulbs that run pretty cool.

I love how colorful your version is! Did you just use scrapbook paper- or is that covered plastic? Way cool!
