What I did to make it was cut a pattern out of the darth vader fabric, cut the same thing out of heavy batting (the kind with the silver outside)  and used black bias tape on the seems and sewed the whole thing together then added the loop.  So no applique or embroidery....although i love embroidered work Smiley

Very sinister! I was just trying to justify buying some vintage Star Wars fabric, but I never even considered making pot holders - good idea!
