I want one of those license plate journals O__O Was it hard to do? And where do you buy cool old license plates?

(P.S. xkcd is AMAZING.)

Thanks for the compliments guyz!  Smiley  XKCD is a great site, isn't it? Smiley  It was just purfeckt for this swap Smiley

Calliel, I bought the plate from Platesusa.com.  There's a whole range of 50 state used plates at reasonable prices.

Here's a mini tute for the license plate journal:

Use tin snips to cut plate in half (be careful -- cut edges are sharp!)

I used a hammer to tap down the rough cut edges.

Decide where you want to punch the holes along the edge.  I used a drill and 3/16'' bit, clamped down the plate and drilled slowly.  (wear your safety glasses!)  Of course you may want to make fewer holes, or bigger holes, YMMV. Smiley

I duct taped the cut edges. You can feel the holes under the tape.  Use an awl or something similar to poke thru the tape.  Glue ribbon over the duct tape.  Then repeat the poking again thru the ribbon.  (Safety first!)

Eyelets or grommets are a good idea to finish the holes.  Tap them in gently but firmly!  License plates are soft metal and whacking em will distort the plate (and eyelets).

Attach the front and back with loose notebook rings (available at office supply stores like Staples, Office Max.)

and TaDa! License Plate Journal! Smiley

Put whatever pretty paper/pictures inside!

I'm really pleased you like everything (and that it arrived sans breakage! I was a bit concerned about Ceiling cat but he was snuggled up nicely Smiley )

I LOVE the license plate journal!  and thank you so much for the tutorial!

I am I SO tempted to make a ceiling cat for my office.  There's a bathroom with a hole in the  wall that it would be perfect for, but everyone would know it was me...

First, SQUEE! I'm so overwhelmed. Here's what I got from neverseenblue (click for full image):

  • A Set of Linocut Oh Hai! notecards
  • A Set of LOLCat Pins (in an adorable package)
  • A Gorgeous Modded Tin (which matches my kitchen)...
  • Filled with A Magetic Poetry LOLCat Kit! (+ some magnetic images of mah kitteh for captioning!)
  • And a Nom Nom Nom bowl (which also matches the kitchen), complete with painted cheezburger.

I think I'm taking the bowl to work to put candy in. Wink

Here's what mah kitteh had to say about it:

Best. Swap. EVAR.
