I grew up in Marietta, GA - a chipper little suburb just NW of Atlanta.  If you have ever been to Marietta and gotten lost, 9 times out of 10 the directions you get from a local yokel involve going past or turning at The Big Chicken.  What in the world is The Big Chicken, you ask? It's, er, a big giant chicken:

The beak opens and closes and the pupils roll around.  It's pretty funny to look at, and is even on Wikipedia if you are interested in its illustrious history.

Now, if you have ever gotten lost in Atlanta and had to ask directions (I don't even like to drive there it's so confusing), 9 times out of 10 the directions you get from a could-be-a-drug-dealer guy involve some street with the word 'Peachtree' in it. (Actually, it was corrupted from 'pitch tree' from the Creek Indians and has nothing to do with the fruit, but whatever.  I love wikipedia.)  There are 20 kagillion streets with Peachtree in the name: P Street, P Road, P Industrial Blvd, P-Dunwoody Road . . . I think you get the idea.  There's also a Presbyterian Church, a creek, a road race, and many businesses among other things.

So, inspired by these two sets of directional certainties, I created this:

which is a silhouette of The Big Chicken on a list of all the Peachtrees in Atlanta (click on the thumbnail or here for a better view of the detail).  The type font is 'Georgia' and the color, of course, is peach.

On a tshirt, it looks like this:

If you want one of your own, you can go to www.spreadshirt.com, click on 'Cities', 'Just Added' or http://www.cafepress.com/adriennesvilla which I opened because I can't figure out how to search for images on spreadshirt.  I make NO commission on these sales, because I don't feel like keeping track of it.  Wink

Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking!!

I had to check this one out, as I currently live pretty close to that Big Chicken!

When we first moved here, we actually took a little field trip to go see the legendary bird. We were a little surprised that this was the famous landmark.  Cheesy

I love the image with all the Peachtree streets, and I can't wait to see your t-shirt!

Well, I'll have to stalk you at the end of the month when I'm back down there for training.  Grin  Thanks, racky!

If you ask me for directions, I will definitely cite the chicken.  Grin

My Mom, Auntie and Grams all live in Cumming ... when I visit, if I need directions I tell them "PLEASE don't tell me any "Peachtree" street names! I'll get lost!" When they do give directions, it seems it's all about numbers ... exit 14, exit 11, etc. It's a good thing the DH does the driving when we're there; besides, I'm not a certified NASCAR driver and evidently I do not have the skills to drive at high rates of speed and apply the brakes simultaneously.   Grin

And I've seen that chicken ... you couldn't ask for a better landmark than that!  Smiley

I used to live in GA (moved from NJ to GA back to NJ again). I went to school really close to the big chicken! I remember when a hurricane tore the original one down and everyone wanted it rebuilt! I loved living there, you brought back a lot of fun memories!

How fun!!  I love the big chicken!  I can't wait to see the shirt!

Random, but, I thought the big chicken was a Chick-Fil-A?!  Was I just imagining that?!  I could have sworn I ate in the chicken once and it was a strange Chic-Fil-A with a buffet!  Or maybe I just dreamt the whole thing  Roll Eyes
