So I've decided to make myself an afghan! Just got in my big cable needle and I'm super excited to start, and since I tend to get bored doing longer projects (but am tired of making smaller ones) I thought I'd see if anyone else is interested in joining. Wink

Pick a pattern and go if you want to join! Just don't forget to post progress and FO pics so we all can be inspired together!

Actually, I've been wanting to start an afghan for a while... I just couldn't decide on how I wanted to do it. I think I finally settled on a stitch pattern that I like...

http://www.knittingonthenet.com/stitches/largediamonds.htm

So now, if I have the endurance needed for making an afghan, that's what I want to do. Either it's going to be a beautiful afghan of a really nice scarf  Shocked Depending on how far I take it Cheesy

Awesome! Well... even if nobody else wants to do an afghan right now we can still post here and put updates. I want to post the pattern I'll be using but right now I have it in excel, and apparently you can't upload files. Maybe I'll cheat and take a screenshot. Figure it out tomorrow I suppose.

Hmmm...I might just join you two. I have some yarn (just plain Red Heart SS) in shades of yellow, gold, orange, and red that I've been thinking of turning into an afghan for some time, but just haven't been able to think up the right pattern. I'm afraid everything I've come up with will end up looking too '70s-ish (you know, the dusty old yellow/caramel colored couches, the yellow flowered tiles, and coffe-stained wallpaper look.  Cheesy just not my style). Right now I'm thinking a simple piece-together afghan. Of different stitch patterns, maybe? Maybe add a couple of crocheted squares in there, too, for a different look? It has some possibilities, I guess. What do you two think?

Hey, when it's an afghan, there's really no rules... you can pretty much do what your imagination lets you do. Do whatever makes you happy Cheesy

I was going to make this all in one color but I realized that I had a ton of odd skeins of Simply Soft so I'm doing one pattern repeat per color and I'm trying not to use any one color twice to help me do some serious stash busting.

So far, I'm on my 4th repeat. I'll post pics tomorrow.

I've started on the Sampler Afghan from Cables Untangled.  I've only made one piece so far, and it is going to be my "in-between" project... for when I get bored with another project or need a change...   I am going to make the panels different colors for a different look and I'm using my overabundant collection of Paton's Merino from my stash.

Here is a pic from the book.

Holy cow guys!  Shocked I think you're both ahead of me! Course it doesn't help that I've decided to do mine as one giant piece. That sampler afghan looks georgeous, but like a lot of work! And I like leppardess' stashbusting idea, Simply Soft is nice but is limited sometimes in what you can use it for.

I've created a Biohazard pattern for mine. And yes, it will definitely be out of Simply Soft. I think it will be cool (well at least if you're a science geek like me  Wink) but I can't share! We really need to be able to post files on craftster, it would make life a bit easier.  My pattern got processed through KnitPro, so I can't change it into a picture from PDF easily .Does anyone have any ideas?

Ooo, Kayrun, that's not a bad idea! I'll have to look into that (I know I have a photocopy of that pattern around here somewhere!).

Have you tried taking a screenshot... press the "Prt Scr" (Print Screen) button and open a paint/photo type program and paste it Smiley  Then crop it down to the part that is your image... of course it will only work well if you can fit the whole picture in the PDF on your screen at one time...

Hope that helps

Here's my "Ripples Reading Afghan" that I created. I'm up to about 570-ish stitches right now, and am ripping through my skeins (eeek!).

I only have 3 (100ish yd) skeins left, before I'm forced to do the border.

Wow! Jeez I'm feeling like the slacker and I supposedly started this thread...  Roll Eyes

Everybody's blankets are looking and sounding like they're coming along great. We need MORE PICTURES!!!!  Grin

This is what I'm working with. I actually compressed this picture horizontally to 66% in photoshop so the picture I put in KnitPro would come out right. The PDF doesn't really fit on my screen without getting all goofy looking anyway so I figured this would work. There will be BIOHAZARD in block letters above and below as well. All in all I'm going for about 5'x7'. Spring break next week so I should be able to get pretty far!

Thanks guys! I'm not quite sure how big it will get yet. When I finish, i'll take the measurements. I'm using the worsted weight yarn from Yarntreehouse.com

That really is a gorgeous afghan Cheesy Any chance of seeing a finished pattern?  Wink (I'm a big fan of your patterns...).

Keeping in topic, I changed my mind about what I wanted to do. I dug out the psychedelic squares one that I started way back when, took those apart and started the garter stitch version (big squares). So far, I have 6 done, one started. *yes, I change my mind quite a bit  Tongue

There will be a pattern available in the near future.
After I snatch some more moments to finish up the afghan, the pattern will be available almost immediately...because it's already written out.  Cool

Thanks for the warm-fuzzies!
