I know this is a mildly insane question BUT...
If I had something white that I wanted to dye pink, just a pale pink, is there any way that I could use some of my (very expensive) red fabric paint to dye it?? I'm too lazy to go buy fabric dye....

In one short word : Nope

Paint, even when diluted to really, really thin, still sits on the surface of the fabric.  And the particles of paint are very large in comparison to the size of dye particles.  If you try to thin paint and then dip the fabric, the paint will probably all cling to the first part of the fabric that it came in contact with, and then when you take it out, it will be really blotchy....

Dye will give a nice even colour. Sorry!
