I have a question(and I feel silly asking Tongue). I'm trying to get a jump on next year's christmas gifts and was thinking of making a doggie sweater for a jack russell terrier(boyfriend's sister's). I don't have access to the dog and was wondering if anyone out there had any good pattern ideas that would fit an average size jack russell? And what kind of yarn would be safe to use? Still a newbie at knitting for others (most of my experiments reside with me for a reason Wink) and so I don't want to make a gift that they won't be able to use. Any ideas would be wonderful! Thank you!

There are basic patterns here sized for different breeds. 4 styles on each size page.

I used Dogs in Knits by Judith L. Schwartz for a dog sweater I made. I love the patterns in that book. She also tells you how to measure a dog. But, just in case you can't, there is a list of rough measurements based on small, medium, or large breeds. I've also heard that Men who Knit and the Dogs Who Love Them has a comprehensive list of dog breeds and their average measurements.

Thank you so much for the replies! Smiley I'm hoping to start working on one in a few days. I'm going to try to knit one up and bring it with me the next time we visit my boyfriend's family. There may be a chance to work in a fitting of the dog if I'm sneaky enough  Wink I'll post some pics as soon as I have something started!
