Hi!  This is my first project post on Craftster (or anywhere).

I made this purse last summer while my DD was away at summer camp for the first time.  It was the first time she had been away from home for weeks at a time, and I missed her so much!  So I knit her this:

Brown Cotton Drawstring Purse and Matching Small Pouch

The purse can be worn in two ways:

with two short handles, as in the photo above, shown open in the photo below:

Short Handles, Open

or with one long handle, to use as a shoulder strap:

Long Handle

I used brown cotton worsted weight yarn for the body of the bag, and a pink-tan-white variegated cotton for the stripes -- I am pleased with how the stripes are multicolored, even though it was so easy with the variegated yarn!

The purse is about 7.5" wide (flat) and 8.5" tall.  The handle is 23" tall when worn long; the two short handles are 11" tall.  (It can be worn on the shoulder either way.)

And a little matching pouch!  The pouch is about 3.5" tall, 2" wide and half an inch deep.  The pink variegated was left over from another project, and the stripes plus this pouch used up the last of it.  The button is a wooden bead that made into a toggle.

I knit this up and sent it off with all my love in a care package last summer.  Back at home, it has mostly been used as a project bag.  (DD knits and crochets).

I hope you like it!   Cheesy

Thank you, rainiable!  I'm glad you like the stripes -- they were the most fun to do!

This is really cute Cheesy I love the color combo and the cotton yarn makes such clean looking stitches. This is really great and it's awesome that she uses it so much (and she's crafty!)

Hey Fiber People: I am very interested in personal swaps for painted/dyed roving or top. I can swap supplies or crafted items. Let's talk!

Thanks, Dinosaurus Meg!  I'm glad you like it.  Cheesy  And I actually decided to learn to knit when DD was younger, because *she* want to learn to knit, and she insisted that she wanted to learn it *from me*!    Grin
