i think i saw something like this in a catalog
and then saw these little 5x5 inch canvases at joann's
so i painted them myself
heeheehee
i am trying to brighten up my laundry room, as you can see it's kind of boring

fyi - the symbols mean
machine wash - cool iron - line dry
bleach as needed - drip dry - dry cleaning
tumble dry medium - machine wash hot permanent press - dry flat

Cute and very creative.  I find washing symbols appealing - does that make me strange?

thanks!
i thought they were graphically interesting
AND easy enough for me to recreate
because i'm no artist
but i really love the way it turned out
-- i should also mention that i don't do the laundry in my house
my husband does
and the other side is my craft area, so it's my room too!!

What an awesome idea...I never gave decorating the laundry room with anything but lint a second thought... Cheesy

i once did an "undomesticated goddess" swap on here
and a lot of the other participants talked about flylady
i don't remember if the address is flylady.com or flylady.net
but the idea is to give you a list of daily/weekly/monthly chores to do
so you get in the habit of housecleaning instead of stuffing everything into the closet when someone is about to come over
(i failed flylady and i still stuff my closets. oh well)
anyway
one of the things flylady suggests is to beautify your laundry room
it's especially important to me because it also contains my craft area
there are two unfinished drywall-type walls
and i plan on taping those seams and painting the walls blue, and i'm going to paint the concrete floor as well. i was thinking a checkerboard, but husband wants that in the adjoining family room (that's also in the midst of renovations) so i'm thinking maybe something more abstract
like let the checkerboards sort of come undone and make a bunch of circles and squiggles and stuff
still planning it mentally
but this seemed like something easy to do to get started
--okay
i will shut up now

Not strange at all, darling, unless I am too...  Undecided

around:  I like the idea of the checkers "fraying" or coming undone into smaller squares, lines, squiggles, etc... make a path to the other room, maybe, then repeat the design in the reverse so it looks like it's going back together?  or going back and forth?

This is all without me having seen the floor plan or asking how close the two rooms are going to be, of course, so it may be way un-doable.  Smiley

hey jenicat - thanks for the idea
my basement is like a big rectangle
it's best to think of it being taller than wide
then take a square out of the bottom corner - leaving you with an upside down L
the square is my laundry room and the little side of the l on the rectangle is my husband's office (not closed off by any walls, leaving the long side of the l (the whole length, but only half the width) will be the family room. walls are already done, the floor is the only thing left
and if there are any more ideas out there - let me know
i definitely want to have fun with this...
