I have gotten quite a long way on my newly named quilt, Snake in the Grass.  I am always amazed how much the embroidery brings out the applique!
You can see more images and details at my blog.

Really pretty.  Do you applique the shapes by hand? (I am planning on revamping an old quilt I made by appliqueing new patches on top, so any advice?)

I love your bright colors!

Wow.  I think I need to reorganize my entire life, just so I can learn how to embroider.  Gorgeous!  The colors are mind-numbingly beautiful.  Can't wait to see the finished piece!

Yes, I do all my applique by hand.  I like doing the hand embroidery, it's very calming.  A lot of the time when I do the embroidery I pick colors that don't match or fight with the colors of the applique.  This seems to "pop"  the colors in the quilt.  Now, I don't do this all the time but it is very effective.  I am learning with each quilt.  I have learned that patterns or colors that I thought would never go together actual work in a weird way.  I sure this has all have been explained in color theory, but I do it by playing around with the fabrics and threads.  I also have riped many a stitch and removed many a appliqued shape after determining that it is just not working.
I hope this helps.
