how to get wrinkles out of clear vinyl

I bought a remnant of clear vinyl from Walmart the other day.  I'm not ready to use it yet, but when I do, I won't want it to have so many creases and wrinkles.  Am I deluding myself to think there's a way to smooth it all out?

There should be some other plastic with information on it wrapped with the vinyl- lots of it is "use to cover picnic tables!" type stuff but there should be some care instructions too. I want to say if you sandwich it between dishtowels you can gently iron it, but you really need those care instructions to tell you what setting!

I bought it to be the outside layer of a purse, which will have candy wrappers showing that will need to be protected.  I'm thinking it will look cruddy if it's all wrinkly.  I'll carefully try to iron it like you suggested.  Thanks!
