A friend of mine decided he wanted a knitted gas mask + hat to wear for winter bike trips to work.  Of course I offered to do it not really thinking about how I'd actually do it.  Months later (after lots of reminding) I finally finished it:

It fits pretty snug so the wind won't creep in.  He picked the colors.  The mask fits over the hat and is attached with velcro for ease of use.  He also liked the idea of the straps showing, which I wasn't sure about at first, but now think he was right as it does make it look more like a gas mask.  The canister part of the gas mask is supported by plastic canvas.  The hat part of it is from Knitty (Blue Hills).  The mask was done without a pattern, so required lots of measuring of his face.  I'm pretty happy with the result.

I used:
Brown Sheep Co. Lamb's Pride Bulky (in white and charcoal)
US 10 DPNs and circular (16")
black sew velcro
plastic canvas

Thanks for looking!

unfortunately in some of the pictures it turns out being kind of pink and grey...but when I saw it was white and grey I was like, Ok, that's a little more hardcore. I think that if it was green it would look pretty badass though, and then the black seams and velcros would blend in a little bit more. But overall this is a really cool idea. And practical! I hit this rocks.
