For my Art II class, we're supposed to make collages, and I'm absolutely stuck! This is what I have so far...

Sorry for the small size and the rather poor picture quality Roll Eyes

We're allowed to use any media, and we can cut the edges of the paper, let things hang off the edges, etc.  I made some flower blossoms for the tree, but the top space looks too blank. I was contemplating having hands coming out of the sky with strings attached to the fingertips, and the strings attach to little birds, sort of like marionettes. Or I was thinking about having two hands cupped together so it looks like they're releasing birds, which would be flying out of the hands.

Roots and grass

So, you crafty people, any ideas?

my first instinct is that it needs words.  i would collage words into the sky area....  but i also like the hands idea.

how about clouds and birds playing with different patterns and textures?  You could even cut out different shades of blues from magazine pictures and collage them for the sky.  Try combining different textures with the paper like fabric, sand, plastic/wrappers.  I would steer away from thing like hand and words - they can get a little cheesy.

good luck!

I tried collaging the sky, but it takes wayyy too long, and I've already glued the tree and grass down, so it might be hard to work around those.

I just feel like the sky is too open and that it needs something to fill it up.

Go with the marionettes idea - it rocks.

I like the hands with marionette birds idea!!! something a little quirky like that would be great.

The top portion feels very empty so I almost want to see just tiny birds at the top. I also think that whatever you decide to do it might be nice to balance out the solid (or mostly solid) color of the bottom with solid color on whatever you decide to do...avoid making it too busy since it would take away from the very nice details of the tree. I guess what I am saying is keep it simple.
