Hi all,

This idea originated with Tappanga http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=19998.0. I tried to contact her regarding continuing this in 2007, but I never heard back. I started the 2007 thread, but I was self-admittedly terribly inactive on Craftster last year!

Subsequently I was rushing more than I'd like to complete Christmas gifts last year, so I'm trying to revisit this idea with a little more crafty zest!

I'm copying and pasting part of Tappanga's original post below so that you can get the idea of this unswap...

(Copy and pasted text below)

These were the themes for 2006:

Jan: Ornaments
Feb: Sewn gifts
Mar: Jewelry/Book thongs
Apr: Magnets
May: Candles
Jun: Stencil/Iron-on
Jul: Craft kits
Aug: Decoupage
Sep: Scarves/hats
Oct: Soap
Nov: Gift wrap/Bows/Tags
Dec: Food gifts

This is an unswap! Keep everything you make for gifts at Christmas. Sign up at any point that you'd like. If you don't want to do whatever craft is assigned to a month, feel free to subsititue with another craft. The main point is to keep crafting and making gifts to avoid the malls as much as possible at Christmas time.

Also, feel free to post here any questions you have about a craft, or pictures of your finished crafts so we can oooh and aaaah.

(End of copy and pasted text)

This is the fourth year that I've been doing this now, so I only use the list as a guide. Personally I can do without making candles and soap again! The point is to make at least one thing monthly and post it here. I'm writing this in February, so already I'm playing catch up, but I just finished a load of ornaments which I will post below.

Have fun - and show me some pictures! Cheers!

You can use the list above as a guide if you want to. Like I said, I probably won't be following it exactly - the whole point is to do a little each month so that you're not bogged down in November/December!

Oooh, it would be fun if everyone posted their own lists to give each other ideas!

I haven't started working on anything new yet, but I was cleaning out some of my saved posts on my bloglines feeds and came across this article related to handmade gifting. Food for thought: http://whipup.net/2007/11/26/editorial-giving-of-gifts/

Fun!  I just saw mention of the Craftalong Christmas unswap on another blog and had to come find this.  I had no idea this category was even here!  Neat!  Smiley

I'm always doing things for Christmas all year long, either buying or making something so that the year isn't so hard on me as Nov/Dec approaches.  Wink

I am in!  I've got to think about my list.  My categories are more like who to craft for:grandma, sister etc.  lol  But I'll see what I come up with.  Wink

First thing:  I ordered some handkerchief linen and plan on sewing up some hankies and then embroidering them for a family member.   (have to be secret just in case they stumble upon Craftster since my name is in my siggy)   Wink

Perfect! I just decided this past week that I'm going to start working on this year's Christmas presents so I (1) won't be swamped at the end of the year and (2) will save money -- especially on those really dumb "emergency" gifts I get people because I can't think of anything else to get them.  (A football remote control for my dad one year...that was really REALLY lame!)

So far my list is something like this:
sister - poppet
DD's "grandma" - recon purse
DD's "aunt" - recon purse

But I still have some thinking to do!
