i needed a reading lamp for my dorm room, so i made one!



action shot:


i used this pattern: http://www.yasutomo.com/project/paperlampshade.htm. i think the dimensions are wrong on the site (i used 14x20).

Awesome lamp! I used to be really into origami but i stopped. Was it hard to do? Cool dorm BTW, where do you go to school?

i've been doing origami for a while, starting with cranes, then some modular stuff. this isnt technically origami though cause there's glue involved. i think my dorm is pretty awesome too (i go to mit).

Looks awesome. I have a pattern that I plan to make into a lamp eventually but it's low on my priorities.

I'm worried about putting paper next to a hot light-bulb though. The instructions mention fire retardant spray but I'd still be nervous about burning down my building.

yeah i couldn't find fire retardant spray anywhere but it's not hanging so i don't think the paper will touch the lightbulb. i just make sure to turn it off when i leave the room.
