My Dr. said I need to go on a low carb life style...I'm new to being a vegetarian is this even possible? I want to stay vegetarian, I'm happy with the way I feel and the amount of energy I've gained since I stopped eating meat. So I don't want to lose that, but I do need to give up the carbs as much as I can (I have a condition that makes it to where I can't digest carbs correctly). I've given up soda and switched to tea's and more water, I've also given up sweats and cut WAY back on breads. Any other ideas, recipes, websites? I'm all ears lol!

i'm not a veggie, but i'm a low-carber as well.  someone posted a link to a veggie low-carb site awhile back, i'll post it for you.  i have a cookbook, it's called Extreme Lo-Carb Meals On The Go by Sharron Long, not sure how veggie it is, but i'm sure you could adjust some of the recipies to make them more veggie.  here's the link: http://immuneweb.org/lowcarb/

for breakfast i usually have the atkins bars or a whey protiene shake, they usually keep me full for several hours, and then i'll have a snack of some sort between 11 and noon, and then by 5 or so i'm ready for dinner.  just make sure you eat enough to keep yourself full.  nuts and (i don't know how veggie you are) cheese are excelent sources of protien, especially sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, pecans, and pumpkin seeds.  also, keep peanut butter around, just slap some on veggies, instant snack!  good luck! You might also want to read Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. The diet is basically low-fat vegan and is low in grains. Lots of greens, beans, salads, fruit, etc.

It's difficult to follow low-carb and vegetarian eating plans at the same time.  Your staples would pretty much be tofu and veggies.  It's easier if you eat dairy, eggs, and/or fish (you can do some great things with eggs), but even then, you can get pretty bored pretty quickly.

What about foods with a low glycemic index - like wild rice?
