Fiber Friday 2/8/08
«

Hi.
My first time posting in Fiber Friday!
I finished this last night so i'm eager to show off! Its not my first attempt at spinning, but its only maybe the third time I made a good job of it (well I think so)
This is a chunky 2 ply, one ply is multicoloured merino, and the other other is just a dark green.
approx 29 meters @ 8-9WPI so far
This is 5 ply (VERY messy and confusing) it has 4 plies of just merino, spun really really fine, and one ply of merino mixed with angelina
approx 45 meters @ 11wpi so far
Im definitly addicted!

woah, 5ply? I already feel like I am losing too many yards with a 3ply! It does look pretty impressive though!
Later today I should also be able to submit some yarn myself (haven't in aaaages), as the Internet is finally working.

Each ply was about 24 wpi. I got a 'wow, thats really fine' when I was speaking to a fellow spinner last week.
I didn't realise that was anything good, as its what my wheel likes me to do so I just go with it.
I do ply on the drop spindle though as my wheel has issues with anything thicker than laceweight, even though the orifice is huge.
Thanks tho

Oh, the 5-ply looks wonderful! Maybe I'll try more than a 2-ply someday...
And I love amazon (ah, the green, I love green)!
My yarn for this week is still on the bobbin and not finished so it will be in the next fiber friday...

Did a lot of spinning this week.. super bowl spree and all LOL!!!
The first one is definitly my favorite this week!! It's from Loop's "Black Magic" spontaneous spinning batt. It had a base of black alpaca, but there was SOO much stuff in it and on top.. every draft was a surprise!! There were locks and tussah silk and bamboo and angelina and firestar and sequins.. it was just amazing!!
It really reminds me of Vegas at night.. with the sparkling and the neon and the crazy stuff around every corner.. so it's called..
VEGAS Baby!!
8 oz (2 HUGE batts!!)
153 yards
This one is still on the wheel, so I'm unsure of the yardage. This is a beautiful batt, called Midnight Magic, of black alpaca and blues in bamboo and tussah silk and a bit of blue sparkle.. which you can't really see in the photo, created by loop.etsy.
I spun this during the Duke vs. University of North Carolina game on Wed, since this is the Duke colorway.. royal blue and black. We are hard core Duke fans in this house.... so I was staying away from working with anything that was a light blue (Carolina blue) Hurrah!! Duke WINS!!
This is my thinnest and most consistant yarn on the wheel so far!! I'm so proud
No laceweight.. but it's progress.
It's called
DUKE WINS!!
Slubs of Happiness
3 oz
45 yards chocolate alpaca and border locks. So much fun!!
This is going to be a skinny scarf for my step mom as a gift for throwing us a wedding shower.
Beautiful batt by Steph at Loop.etsy
Glitter is GOOD!!
3 oz
98 yards
This is natural wonder batt from loop.etsy
I LOVE how sparkley this is.. natural fawn alpaca with tons of sari silk, silk noile, firestar and angelina
Imagination
4 oz, 68 yards
This is straight cotswold locks dyed by hollyeqq. it was my first time spinning straight locks. I had to get the hang of it.. they have a bit more lanolin than I'm used to and they are slippery.. but once I got it, it was really fun. NO drafting needed!! I liked it so much actually, I ordered another 4 oz in the same colorway! They showed up yesterday.. weekend fun!! I did learn that I should take it off the bobbin right away, as opposed to letting it sit for a day so the twist relaxes a bit.. otherwise they could pull apart when you are skeining it. I only had one spot "untwist" but I just made another skein.. so it's good!! I'm glad it didn't happen in more places!!
Lastly this was a beautiful batt called Jewel by loop.etsy
Lilac alpaca, white and the softest baby almost white blue bamboo with TONS of angelina in different colors from irridecents to holographic silver! I'm going to make as skinny scarf for my junior bridesmaid.
Wedding Day
3 oz
74 yards
Happy friday everyone!!

Hello again, and I'm not even too late for the party!
Flowers and lemons, it's lovely to see the first few yards of handspun - and the Turkish spindle was a great choice.
The texture looks really great knitted up as well.
Grayling, those yarns are gorgeous, I wonder how Vintage would knit up?
Wow, Jazzturtle, you have been reeeally prolific!
Anyway, it's been truly ages since I last posted in fibre friday, so I have a bit of catching up to do! To keep it simple I am just going to post a few of my latest yarns.
Koi, handspun and hand dyed NZ lamb, navajo plied:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2365/2095354056_90b19943f5.jpg
Sage in bloom, hand dyed 2ply:
Lily butterfly, hand dyed 50% Merino/50% silk:
Riding on the waves, hand dyed Merino plied with thread:
Plant dyed rainbow yarn:
Plus I was able to spin quite a few new art yarns, which I will hopefully post next week...
Thanks to everyone for sharing!
Veronika
