I made BEST OF 2007 for my frozen bird nest pic!

It takes me a while to post the stuff I make, but here's something I made a while ago.  I made notes as I wrote it, so if anyone wants the pattern, just let me know! My coffee cup/tea cup is a standard sized mug, so hopefully it will fit on all the other mugs I'll use in the future!

It's attached at the bottom and closes with some awesome vintage buttons I found at the thrift store. If I recall, it takes about 20 mins to make. Very good beginner project  Wink

Comments/constructive criticism welcome!
(ADDED:  PATTERN BELOW IMAGES)

Here's what it looks like at the bottom (fits nice 'n' snug w/o falling off):

Worsted weight, H hook
ch 39 (enough to fit around bottom of mug below handle and leaving a 1" overlap)
ch 1, turn, sc across
ch 1, turn, sc across
ch 1, turn, sc across, cut yarn
make a loop, start at 6th sc from end and  sc to end *do not turn, ch approximately 7 (this makes the flap over part with the button hole)
ch 1, turn, sc across to beginning of row (where the 6th sc began)
ch 1, turn, sc across to end
repeat last row until it fits under the mug handle at top (approx. 6-7 more rows of sc or until row ends at edge of flap)

ch 1, turn to side of flap, sc across short edge

note: depending on size of button, this determines how big your button hole should be (my button is 1 1/2" diameter)

ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, ch 5, sc to end
ch 1, turn, sc across

add button!

last step:  the first 3 sc rows should be attached by a 1" overlap, sew

when you place the flap over to the button, and after sewing the bottom 3 sc rows, you should see a small slit where the mug handle will go

I love this!  I am just now starting to learn how to crochet.  I would love if you posted your notes so that I could try to make one.

Thanks!

Oh! I love it! This is one of the best ones I've seen. I would love to make one for my Mom. (hint....)

Could I see the pattern, too?

gosh... thanks for all the kind words everyone!  i made it the first time by making another slit that goes over the top of the mug handle and buttoned again, but then i forgot that mouths go on the top of the mug... so i ripped it out, several times, and started again.  i like it. it keeps my tea hot  Grin  please, please, please post your pics here if you make one! i really want to see!  Cheesy

Cute!
Thank you so much for writing up the pattern. Smiley
I'd love to make one of these for work ~ I get really busy in the morning and my cup of tea always gets cold.
