So, ok this project is not 100% finished but I am just dying to post it. My little sis is having her room redone and I recently started the first of two murals I am doing in her room. She just turned 13  so I thought something slightly more sophisticated was called for. The image is based on a portion of a japanese woodblock print by Hokusai. I painted it using a combination of satin latex for the underpainting and artist's acrylics for the detail. I freehanded the entire image no projector was used, anyway I hope you likey

That is really cool.  Have you ever seen any of Hiroshige's prints? If not you should look them up online- he is my favorite!! Wink

Beautiful. Your sister is one lucky lil lady, I say.

Both Hokusai and Hiroshige prints are absolutely stunning, as most Ukiyo-e art is. I wouldn't say no to having it supersized and painted all over my boringly squeeky-clean-white kitchen walls. Grin

hey thanks for all the great feedback! you guys are the best! and my sister is actually pretty into it she said that when everything was finished she wanted to have a "roomwarming party" i Cheesy

As decibel said the Ukiyo-e art that I don't like does not exist, but I am pretty much crazy about the Japanese aesthetic in general, any culture that elevates every aspect of life to an artform has my vote, ultimately isn't that what crafting is about? anyway enough of my aesthetically oriented ramblings....when I actually finish this mural and the second one I will post some new photos

It's beautiful! I've never seen anyone do a whole mural freehand before, you're a great painter.
