Memory foam is superfun!

SCRAP in Portland, OR has had a big bin of memory foam for awhile now. I grabbed a bunch, but didn't know precisely what to do with it save for squishing (which is quite satisfying). But then, inspiration struck!

Earrings!



I think I'll be clipping things onto and squishing my earrings all day tomorrow.

I have a question for you though. What exactly is SCRAP? I keep hearing about it, so I checked out the website, but I couldn't figure out what it really is. I live 5 minutes out of Portland so I'm kinda really interested. Thanks.

SCRAP is a magical land full of unicorns and elves!

Actually, it's this wonderful project with a store and classes that is based off of reusing everything and anything. All sorts of businesses and people donate things to them. A small sample of what I've acquired: a circuit board, old CDs, interfacing, records (cheaper than at Goodwill!), carpet samples, unused pretty Japanese thank you cards, zippers, old sewing patterns...

The selection changes all the time, and it's a rather odd bunch of stuff, all of which is EXTREMELY useful. If it weren't for SCRAP, a good bunch of the materials it has gathered would have been thrown away.

And I wouldn't have these awesome earrings!

That's fantastic. I should definately venture into Portland then, as soon as I break this stash of materials some designers, and my carpenter dad just unloaded on me.

i go to scrap for buttons, magazines, transparency sheets, and like, everything else in the world. whooo!  i have a big jar of glass etching cream that i got from there for a few dollars.  one time they had a big bin full of black foam beer cozies that were 8/$1--i bought a few dozen and stencilled my band's logo on them, and we gave them away on tour last year.

and they have 2" wide elastic for like, 25 cents a yard!! OMG!!

It's what's used to make those Tempurpedic mattresses, among other things. It's rather light, squishy, and resilient! Woooo!
