One of my New Year's Resolutions is to:  "Use what I have".  Because I don't have a true craft room where I can keep all of my stuff in one place, I often don't really even know what I have  Huh
This was especially true of my ribbon stash.  I LOVE ribbon and use it all the time in my sewing, paper crafting, jewelry making etc. etc.  But I really didn't have a storage system in place and when planning a project I would buy more ribbon so I wouldn't have to hunt it all down.
So, I was inspired by those over the door shoe racks and figured I could somehow create one perfect for ribbon storage.  So I chose which door in my house I would hang it on and took the measurements.  I hit up my stash for some upholstery weight fabric and interfacing and began!  My plan came together beautifully and Michael's sells wooden dowels that fit perfectly through the ribbon spools  Cheesy  Just sawed them off to the right length, always looking for a reason to use my saw!  I thought about using actual ribbon to secure the dowels, but actually settled on woven strapping.  So here are the pics along the way and the final product:

the back and wooden hanger seems the strongest

Ta Da!!!  The finished product, loaded with ribbon

It is sooo fun now, to go and choose which ribbon I want to use!  Plus, I just love to look at all the pretty ribbon  Grin  Yeah, I know that's kinda weird.

That's great.  I'm sitting here alternating staring at my door and my messy ribbon stash right now.  I may have to borrow this idea at some point.

Man, oh man, if I could just come up with something like that for all of my crafting categories! This is not only fabulously organizational (I have fantasies about being completely organized), it's beautiful! Way to make something both functional and nice to look at. Smiley

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

This is great! I have been playing with how to organize all my ribbon might have to play off your idea here for my office too (keep thinking just because I'm getting organized it doesn't mean it can't be pretty to look at too!)  You've done a great job at being both with this Smiley

Oh, that is so fantastic!!!! I am hitting this rocks! And I am totally going to copy you as soon as I move into my new place  Wink. Did you just sew the cords holding the dowells above and below each dowell so that it lies flat or did you make it bubble out? That probably doesn't make any sense. What I mean is it like this:
n  n   n   n   n  (with the dowells sticking between the humps)  or  like this:  ________? Sorry I can't explain what I mean any better.
Anyways, that is a great idea and yours looks wonderful!

Thank you for all the awesome compliments!!!

I totally understand what you are asking... Cheesy   And I did make the strapping bubble out.  I took 4 inches of strapping and made a 1 1/4 inch gap for the dowel with it.  So, you end up with a 2 3/4 inch bubble approx. Then I sewed above and below the bubble.
Now, hopefully I explained that so it makes sense  Undecided

Ooo...nice!  I don't have near that much ribbon (I am drooling over your stash) but could use a much better way to organize it.  Now...I just need more wall space in my meager crafting area!
