On a crafting hiatus due to University... blargh.

This is my first time starting a topic, though I've been lurking for a while and have made enough comments before to be able to show pictures directly (you're welcome).  I've noticed these same "before" shoes several times on here, though not done quite like this.  I liked them when I tried them on in the store, but then got home and noticed *gasp* TOO MUCH TOE CLEAVAGE!!!  I hate toe cleavage, so I threw them aside and told myself I'd do something with them later, even if it was just to donate them.  THEN I found Craftster. When I finally branched out from the reconned clothing boards to the shoe boards, I was inspired to create these from those shoes, also influenced by my love of history and involvement in current events.  Without further ado, I present the Newspaper Heels:

Right side is the "Before" and left is the "After" cutting off the band/strap.

After removing both straps.

After using Mod Podge and pieces of newspaper to cover the shoes. This is before deciding what to do with the heel.

Action shot of after doing the heels and before putting on the ribbon.  Sorry it's a little blurry.

I HATE toe cleavage.  This is where the ribbon will be put on to cover said cleavage.

Before gluing the now-cut-and-sewn ribbon onto the top.  I only did one at first to test, and I'm glad I did because the "Ultimate Glue" I used dried yellow and oozed out the sides and through the ribbon.  So I cut it off and redid it with "Fabri-Tac" which worked MUCH better.

The first (bad) glue being clamped to dry.

Finished shoes, with the Fabri-Tac-ed ribbons.

Side view of completed shoes.

Toe detail.  See if you can read the articles I used  Grin

Heel detail.  The heels were striped with strips from an advertisement for travelling to India that was on the back of the Parade section one Sunday.  It was a photo of the Taj Mahal, though I didn't use strips with the Taj Mahal on them, opting instead for strips from the light sky and the dark ground area.  You can even see tourists in the photo.  I still had the whole Taj Mahal left over.

Action shot!  Forgive the sock lines on my legs, and the awkward angle, it's hard to line up a shot using a camera set on a timer and propped up on some thick magazines...  The toe cleavage is now virtually gone, except for a little TINY spot by my little toes, which is okay with me.

THE END!!  Let me know what you think!  Grin

I quite liked them with the strap but im with you about the toe cleavage so I can see why they had to go.  Cheesy Awesome idea with the ribbon, and I like the newspaper too.

I am IN LOVE with these shoes! Seriously AWESOME!!!
What did you use to decoupage them?
I also hate toe cleavage--awesome job fixing that!

Okay so once again I am completely redoing my pictures. Got tired of photobucket, the only reason I used it was for here so I decided I will just use Craftster's photo uploader. So while I am switching over my photo links will be broken. Message me if there is a post you would like the pics for.
