Craft or Die!

I have been wanting to get a tattoo for years now. I have a few ideas, but need more. I have a couple dollars but need ALOT more.

To inspire me further I decopaged a big pickle jar to collect all my loose change. Here is the front and back veiw...

I also covered a blank book to keep track of my sketches, ideas and flash (artist's designs).

At the end there were a few cutouts left over. I made them in to magnets to hang wherever I need a reminder or inspiration.

I already have about $20 in change. Its a good start I think. I also fulfilled another resolution by entering the challenge!

where'd you get all your designs?

My husband bought a TON of Tattoo and Flash magazines last year. He won't miss them. I'm trying to get him to sketch me a few designs too. He doesn't think he is good enough to let me have it permanently embedded.

Those look great! My boyfriend has been complaining about not having a piggy bank, maybe I'll make him one for Valentines Day!

Can I ask how you got the images to lay so smoothly around the jar? And what medium did you use to adhere the images? (I'm a needle crafter, with very little experience in glue and such things.)

I used a great product called Mod Podge. It is kind of like white glue but thicker and you will find it near the glues in most craft stores. Paint a layer on to your service and place down your picture. Rub out as many of the wrinkles as you can and paint a layer of Mod Podge over the top. You will get wrinkles but most will look better once it is dry. I'm sure there are lots of other little tricks if you search around the site a bit. Good Luck!

This is really great! I'm always saying I'm going to save up money for another tattoo, but it always seems to get spent-this is a really creative way to save up! I hope you find the perfect inspiration for your tattoo!!

this is a great idea, my ex-boyfriend used to do the same thing. He paid for a half sleeve with his spare change.

(what I did when I had the artwork & the artist but not alot of money, I opened a credit card specifically for tattoos, kind of like getting credit for a car loan or something. I could pay him all at once but pay it off over time. Most shops take credit cards these days.)
