Hi, I'm thinking of undertaking an afghan project and I'm looking for some yarn suggestions. I don't really like acrylic yarns, but I want affordable and machine washable, because the finished blanket will (hopefully) cover my queen sized bed. I don't want to have to hand wash something that huge in my bath tub. What yarns have you had afghan success with?

How about Plymouth Encore?  It's a wool/acrylic blend.  It's machine washable.  There's one called "Marble", too.  My friend is using it for a sweater.  They both come from Yarn shops.

Wool Ease would be another option.

I've had great success with red heart and caron simply soft.

I've got an afghan from an aunt that's been dead 20+ years, it's sees every day use and still looks great. If it's not red heart, it's something similar!

I know acryllic is harsh and such, but it lasts forever.
