That is such a great idea! Smiley  There are sooo many of those terrible g-pa sweaters out there just waiting to be reconstructed!  I'm going to go look in my closet Grin

I may have to experiment... *rubs hands together, grins maniacally* Quick q, though: did you have any kind of problem with the sweater raveling where you cut off the sleeves/bottom?

did you have any kind of problem with the sweater raveling where you cut off the sleeves/bottom?

I had washed the sweater in my front-loading machine on the "hand washable" setting so it was just slightly fulled, not anywhere near felted. That said, I've been cutting up sweaters for years, in all types of fibers, some that won't felt at all and I've not had any real problems. (I cut the neck band out of a cotton sweater today and wore it around for a couple of hours without losing any stitches) I think it's kind of a myth that that's going to automatically be a problem. If you knit you may know that it's sometimes difficult to unravel even on purpose. Then when you take into consideration that vertical, curved and diagonal cuts aren't running in the right direction to unravel, I think you'd really have to try pretty deliberately to get it to happen. However, if you want to be super-duper sure, you can sew a running stitch on your sewing machine just inside the edge you're going to cut. Sorry to be so verbose! Good luck.

This is a fantastic idea! I've got a mans blue cashmere sweater I don't wear, but would if it looked like this one. Thank you for sharing. Smiley
