Here is a fairy house we made out of a stump I had my husband haul from our woods. WE used everything natural from our yard, except the 2 screws holding the awning in place.

The complex....Notice the fairy slide to the right of the porch.

Closeup of porch..the moss we got from the woods too:

The garden complete with a lamppole.(the fairies put glowbugs in there at night to light up the park that has hens and chicks, and an oyster park bench with snail shell pillows)

Aerial view:

Here is one of the residents:

Some other residents include Tree Frogs and Ladybugs.

We have a 2 and a 4 year old and it is awesome to take them into the woods and look at the mushrooms, moss and twisted roots from the once upon a marshland! It is awesome! I am FROM the city, and i prefer this. It is serene. It gets my imagination rolling along with my daughters. I feel like a kid again sometimes. Especially in the summer when there are GLOWBUGS everywhere!

jeez MK where do you get the time to be an awesome amazing mom, roller derby lady, nail tech, and poppeteer?Huh AND make fairy houses???

I wish you lived near me so I could co-opt your coolness. XP

Seriously, this rocks. I used to bring my kids out to glean stuff for fairy houses, but usually the stuff just sat on my porch cause they lost interest. Sad

Your daughters are very lucky!!!!

Maybe I can just let go and be a grown up little one.

Loooove the succulent plants! Great job.

I used to make stuff like this with my best friend in grade school, nothing this intricate though. We'd draw out plans and then find supplies and glue it all together then put it outside and wait for the fairies to find they're new house. Cheesy It was loads of fun.

I love what you've done with the place Cheesy lol

That is how I feel except I have little ones. So I just let go. When I was a kid I wished my parents would imagine this kinda stuff with me. So now I want to give to my girls the imagination I WANTED from my parents. It is a bonus because it gives me a reason to relive my mermaid, my little pony, Lady Lovelylocks, fairy, fantasy world I had in my head that I didn't want to grow out of!  Grin

I can't wait to see posts of more fairy homes!!! My mom had a crystal in her kitchen window and when the sun hit it it would spray disco ball'ish orbs of light all over and my mom would bump the crystal to make it look like they were flying everywhere. She would then call my daughters in and get them all excited that fairies were flying everywhere! So everyday my girls where looking forward to the "kitchen fairies". Yeah, they think grammas house is cool because she has fairies there.

that's so awesome...instilling a love of nature and wonder about life is so precious and hopefully your daughters won't become jaded because they've had a great start...

My mom used to take me into the woods for walks and she always used to build me giant Big Bird nests (like from Sesame Street). She taught me how to gather found objects and appreciate art in nature, and now I still wildcraft for projects even if they never get done and I just end up with random bits of moss, sticks, pieces of dried birch bark, and dried mushrooms all throughout the house...

so really, I LIVE in a fairy house! XD

Ahhh! I would LOVE to see it! When I was younger I wanted Tinkerbells (Julia Roberts as Tink in the movie Hook) Room! I loved her little nook! I was around trees and nature during the first little while of my life. As I got older it was few and far between because my dad was in the service. My other siblings were raised in the city and they think that camping is supposed to be either in a trailer or at a KOA. They also need running water. My idea of running water is camping next to a river! Needless to say, they are more worried about boys, cars, text messaging and baby phat handbags. They have no appreciation for the beautiful things and it makes me sad to see what they are missing out on. One day it won't be here anymore because it will all be turned into cities or neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong, I love baby phat handbags and texting as much as the next girl, but if I had to choose, I wouldn't have purses or cell phones! That's for sure!
