hi craftster! i've missed you!!

i've never been very good at stuffies, but it's something i've always wanted to be able to make. it's immensely frustrating to me, because i can pretty much sew anything else!

so i decided to use a fabric i was extremely comfy with and attempt a stuffy for a friend.

may i present -
my vinyl octopus!

i absolutely adore this vinyl, the colour is amazing. i bought a few metres when i first got it, and then i sent my sister back for the last 2 metres on the bolt! i'll definitely be making bags out of it soon!

he has BIG pink eyes.... and polyfill stuffing just in his head/body

and blue circles (suctiony cups)on his bottom!

his body is cut from 5 pieces all together - 4 of the blue, and the large silver underside.

i learned a few lessons making him, number one to not try to use two colours of thread while sewing him together (i should have used blue in the bobbin as well). i've got all these plans for vinyl stuffies, and i finally feel like i might be able to make them!

i hope you like him! (and excuse my really poor editing job of trying to erase all the crap behind him in the pic!)

Ahh he's awesome!! In the first pic there's a reflection that makes him look like he has a little smiley mouth ... it's kind of of cute, maybe add a real smiley mouth? (unless you're going for ultra realistic ... in which case I'm not sure Octopi can smile?)

Lol, I'm not sure how many of us could say vinyl was a material we were good with so that's definitely an awesome skill!

thanks! i love vinyl, honestly. it always does what i want! and this vinyl is so gorgeous, it's totally pearlescent. it practically glows!

i'm not sure how realistic the bright pink eyes are either, so i'll think about adding a mouth!

i have so many more ideas for vinyl creatures...

i'm glad you guys like him!

Love it!  It's funny how we all have our preferences for materials to work with.  I made a set of alphabet puppets a long time ago, and the one that gave me fits was "Nile Noodle" because I thought the vinyl was so annoying to sew!

I agree with crafty_rach, in the first pic that little reflection does look like he/she has a lil smile.  Very cute!

I love the little touches, especially -- the eyes, the little blue bits on the bottom...

So neat!!
