My corriedale roving and Jacquard dyes arrived last week, so I FINALLY got to try them out this weekend!  Here is what I've come up with:

First "test batch"

Second batch- I've named them (from left to right) Amazon, Sakura, and Doll House:

Roving balls!

I've already spun up the first green on, and it is drying.  I'm not sure what I'll do with the others.  There is a woman at work who knits, I might spin them up for her.

I like the Amazon one. The greens and blues look great together. Smiley

The colors are very vibrant.  Shocked Is it hard to dye and spin?

Is it hard to dye and spin?

not really... Although, spinning can take a lot of practice.  I started dyeing after reading the twisted sister's sock workbook, and they pretty much lay it out step by step -two or three different techniques (using Lanaset dyes, rather than Jacquard, I don't know how different they are). Lanaset dyes work just like kool-aid, although you can't heat set them in the microwave.  (And you should presoak in vinegar, although the book says that water is fine, I find you get brighter colors the longer vinegar is in the mix.)

The Jacquard dyes were really easy to use.  I just presoaked the wool in warm water, then mixed about 1/8 teaspoon dye powder with a cup of vinegar and splattered it all over!  The dye is set by steaming the roving wrapped in plastic wrap in a colander over a pot of boiling water (just like you'd steam vegetables) and then cooled & rinsed.  It's so simple and addicting, I can't wait until I have more colors and more wool to play with!  It's so much fun to see how stuff turns out.
