I scored some nice chunky yarn for just $1/skein at Michaels on my way out of the US and it was in my mom's favorite color. She also loves cables ... so, using a basic pattern from Drops and her measurements, I knit her a sweater. Got all but the sleeves done and wrapped it for Christmas - because I didn't think the fit was going to be good. And it wasn't. So, frogged it all but the last couple inches and began again - and hooray, got it done before they left to return to the US on January 1!!!!

The sleeves are loose, but she likes them that way to wear over things.

Here is a closeup of the cables:

what it doesn't show is that the cables are staggered, don't all three begin at once. Oh, and the edging is I-cord, with an I-cord loop for the button.

The wrist I'm rather proud of - I left the stitches live on the bottom of the sleeve and knit sideways to add a cable wrist whatever you call it. It is knitted with a self hem, which I just folded up and stitched in place.

Thanks everyone! I seldom post completed projects, but just wanted to show off my mom! She is cute, isn't she! Sure doesn't look 80+ (nor act it!). I was so privileged to have them visit over Christmas and the New Year!

Around the collar is also I-Cord - but what you may be referring to, Ruby_soho, is what she chose for a button - which is a Chinese style folded(?) round button and it has a tassel on it, which she may or may not leave on, she isn't sure yet.
