I really like these! I've been looking for a wallet pattern that wasn't so thick and complicated that I could carry in a clutch, and these are perfect! Do you have a pattern or a tute you can reference?

I used the tut here:

I absolutely love your tea wallets they are adorable!  I will be making them for my Aunts and myself.  I love that housewife fabric!  Where did you find it?  The mother of pearl buttons are a perfect accent.

I got the housewife fabric at my quilting store, its Michael Miller.

I don't remember if I said it but I put interfacing in mine and I think that worked relaly well.  Just the backing piece, not the pockets.

Cute fabrics.  It looks like yours are 'taller' than mine are.  I've made a bunch of these from the original tute.  Just wondering what dimensions you used.

Yep I love the stash busting aspect.

Um, I'll reply with my dimensions this afternoon.  I didn't follow the tut as it seemed relatively easy looking at it.  I measured the tea bags that I usually use (the Tao size) and went from there. Tongue  I also overlapped the pockets, I'm not sure if the original tut did that.

What a great use for scrap fabrics. I've seen these before, just not anyone who makes them. These would make great gifts or craft fair items. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hello there! Cheesy

I love this idea - I think it's so great. I decided to make one for my fiancee as he is an avid tea drinker and can just stash it in his desk drawer at work.

However! I am brand new to sewing, and I would really appreciate a bit of help on this project... Undecided

I followed the instructions of the link with the tutorial, but after sewing around the three sides, how do you sew the last side nicely to close it and not have the rough threads sticking out of everywhere?  Huh

Thank you!

Julblo, after you sew the three sides, and turn the fabric sandwich right side out, it makes a sort of pocket type of thing- right? you fold the top edge hems about 1/2 in to themselves. it's shown in photo #8. then you sew along the top and all around the edge.  you just sort of have to be sure all the renegade threads are inside the pocket before you press the top hem.

She actually didn't say this in the tut, but I did it.

BEFORE I turned it right side out, I pressed the edges to the inside 1/4" (even with the stitching).  Then when you turn it inside out, the edge looks clean.  Then you top stitch, and walla!

Does this make sense?

I'm afraid i skip those steps. I bypass the fundamentals of sewing technique. you can totally see that i do, too. it drives my mother a bit crazy. hee hee hee.

That must help your corners must turn out quite neat too.

Teheeh.

Actually, reading your post again, I sew along three full sides, and either end of the fourth side so that all the corners are sewed before I turn it inside out.  You only need like three inches in the center unsewn to turn.

Hi athenamat & kmsmaverick,

Thanks for the help!  Wink

Gotcha! Yes - that makes so much sense!!  I just couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong because the pics show all the edges to be nice and clean, so I figured I must have missed something...wish me luck!!

Thanks again,
Jul

Oh my gosh! My mom had some of that froggy fabric when I was younger! I'll have to see if she has more of it in the fabric stash so I can add it to my patchwork quilt!

She made me something with it, but I don't remember what...
