Why?? Do you sew for your children?

I sew some for my kids. Not as much as I would like. My 4 year old is MUCH easier to please than my 12 year old. If I buy brand names, it is because they are on sale...like clearance sale. I made some really cute pillow case dresses for the 4 year old this summer and made them just a bit bigger for tops for the 12 year old and she actually liked them! Now you guys have me thinking about sewing some winter stuff.

we do get clothes second hand and all the rest I usually sew. It is cheaper, better quality and of course way nicer and more individual AND I love working on something and immediately getting a great, cute result.

As I get older I'm more interested in practical applications for my creativity. Also I'm not a fan of animals on every single thing and I'm not a fan of the current color palettes. Okay so she's a girl. Does she HAVE to always be in pink and purple? Why are we afraid of greys and black on children?

I just like making stuff for people I care about, whether it's clothes, food, whatever.  Sewing is a creative outlet for me.  And purchased boy clothes are soooo boring a lot of the time.

Although I get very frustrated at the lack of "boy" fabrics.  And I disagree that it is cheaper to sew than buy.  But it is easier to make what you want than find what you're looking for sometimes.

Why are we afraid of greys and black on children?

My dad & grandma used to get sooo frustrated with me.  About the time I hit middle school, I wanted to wear black & my grandma used to say it looked like I was going to a funeral.  When I wanted to wear black tights, my dad would say they were only worn by "ladies of the night."  lol  My DH still says I wear too much black.

I sew for my kids because

1. I LOOOVE some of the fabrics that are out right now and just have to make SOMETHING out of them.
2. The clothes that I make are better quality then many department stores
3. My kids appreciate them more when they are homemade, thus treating them better
4. I like to show off (lol!)
5. I have extra fabric many times that I can piece things together
6. I completely enjoy it!
