So I was reading through some of the old posts when I saw the one about the being able to crochet on the plane.  I noticed that she was going to Italy and guess what! So am I!  Cheesy I didn't even think to get yarn there til I read down some of the replies.  Now the issue: I'll be traveling to Milan, Florence and Rome and was wondering if anyone knew any good yarn stores there so I can stock up!

Thanks a bunch!  Grin or as they say "gratzi!"

I'm awesome. Smiley

I have vintage yarn that I would like to give to someone! Please send a message if you'd like to obtain it.  I have lots!

was it my thread?  :-)  if you can, find some little old ladies.  they'll know where to get supplies.  a few words you might want to know:
crochet = uncinetto or lavorare all'uncinetto
yarn = filato

Maybe it's too late but I want to answer your questions.
I'm not from the cities you're going to visit, but I guess you're going to find beautiful stuff in anyone of these cities.
You can find the things you're looking for in a "merceria" (a shop where they sell sewing things, buttons, threads, sometimes underwear and socks and sometimes yarn and crochet\knit things) or in a "negozio di filati" (yarn shop). If you want to buy some fabric look in a "negozio di scampoli" or "negozio di tessuti".
Yarn=filato
wool=lana
cotton=cotone
acrylic=acrilico or sintetico
Crochet=uncinetto
Knitting=lavorare ai ferri

Yarn is selled in "gomitoli" (skeins). It's pretty hard to find acrylic yarn (at least where I live), you can easily find good quality yarn, but it can be very expensive (I know of some yarn sell for 10 or more per 50 or 100gr).
The size of crochet hooks and knitting needles is expressed in millimetres.
