I'm big into travel and roadside Americana and am always looking for info on places to go. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a swap where we would pick a city (either our own or just a travel destination we love) and make maybe like a brochure or something plus a little craft, maybe a postcard or button or something representing the place? We could swap info like best reastaurants or tacky touristy stuff not to be missed. For example I live in Central florida, but instead of disney I'd recommend places like the serpentarium outside of St. Cloud or Gatorland in Kissimmee, plus a few good restaurants and shops...especially crafty shops.

I would like to do it so we'd each get a variety of cities, so maybe we would each do multiples. Just a random thought.

That sounds great to me!  I live in Saint Louis, MO.  I love to travel and this would be perfect to add to my travel books and brochures.

This seems like such a fun thing -- the only thing I hesitate about is that I can't imagine any reason at all why anyone would come to my hometown  Wink  I mean, I could make up a guide for "What to Do in Lexington If For Some Reason You Have to Go There", but that seems like it would apply to only a very small percentage of folks...

If that's how you feel about Lexington, imagine what I'd have to write for Bowling Green.  It'd have to be the guide for what to see if your car broke down on the way to Lexington.

It's an awesome idea, dixie_terror.  I'm in.  I just know that there are people out there who really need to know what to see and do in fabulous Bowling Green, KY.

I think that some of the posts get left out when I click on the show unread posts icon because this is the first I've seen of this thread!  Makes me wonder what other great things I may be missing on craftster...or could be I'm just blind

anywho, I think it would be great to make a travel "passport" type journal with all the to do's and the to don'ts plus make one or two things that would be like a kitschy souvenier i.e. embroidered hot pad, paper weight, magnet etc.

First of all: lovin the idea. Smiley  I am from Canada, but I'm sure everyone wants to know about places here too.  And second: maybe for what to give, it could go something like the brochure-type thing, a crafty tourist-y item, and perhaps one bought tourist-y item?  (Well.. if tourist-y items CAN be bought where everyone lives. . .hm..)

I definitely like the passport idea, thats kinda cool, as far as # of things to include craft wise, we'd have to be careful that the # doesn't get too high, i know a lot of us are always in multiple swaps...

a cool way to do a passport would be to get those cheap little photo albums (you can get them for 99 cents some places) to use, could cut and paste pictures, parts of brochures or maps and addresses directions to places.  and then maybe include a pin/button, patch, or magnet (homemade or not) that represents your town and a small craft that represents your town.  like if you have a cool statue in the town square, a super duper diner, or some weird icon like the "largest penny in the world" http://www.worldslargestthings.com/wisconsin/penny.htm, which I have actually seen!!, you could make something based on that.

I think that would be a very cool way of doing it, that would also keep postage down... so maybe each person could make x # of 4x6 pages for each member of the swap, plus a postcard or someother samll gifty and a little craft...
