ok, so in a fit of boredom i dyed my hair red (AGAIN) after being bleach blonde for awhile, i used the new color pulse type from l'oreal, and in my stupid headstrong mind the "for lightened or bleached hair--not reccomended" didn't apply to me.  Roll Eyes anyway the color came out a beautiful BRIGHT red. one look in the mirror and i declared, I love it, but I am gonna get fired. It was supposed to be a 8-12 wash deal, but no such luck. so in a desparate moment I called my aunt who owns a salon, after I threatened just to dye a darker color over the red she let me in on a method I would have never thought of...

to help strip pink tones left over from red dye on bleached hair:
crush/grind up a few 1000 mg vitamin C tablets and mix in enough clarifying shampoo to make a paste, wash your hair with this focusing on the bleached areas. Follow up with a good conditioner since it is super acidic.

It took out much more than just washing repeatedly had prior. Hope this may help someone else down the line...

Wow, that's awesome. I've never heard of that. I have a few of them, and I'm dying my hair tomorrow a pink color. Thanks for the tip, I might need to use that tomorrow night if I don't like it. =)

wash it with dish setergent. It is very harsh because it has to be for dishes and itll strip the temporary color right out of your hair. When I was in highschool the day of homecoming I tried dying it "my normal color" and it turned out pitch black instead of auburn and the people on the haircolor hotline on the box when i called said to use dish detergant. worked wonders, goot thing too because i looked like death with black hair.
it sounds like you wanted to lighten it? I may be wrong but anyways....Temporar y color will never lighten your hair. temp colors are called deposit colors so you can add and make it darker. to lighten you have to us something that will lift your color such as bleaches(hair that is) or something premanant.

When I turned my hair Barney purple, then freaked and dyed it black(WAY to dark for me then) my hair dresser suggested me using lemon Joy dish soap to lighten it. And in about 3 washes it was a dark brown which I could live with much better than the greasy balck it looked.

Just a note from a color specialist...

Permanent color will lift natural hair color to a lighter color, but if your hair is already colored, there will be no such luck.  Tint on top of tint will go darker, or will be completely unpredictable.  (Think the blondes that you see with 4 different colors of blonde in horizontal stripes down their heads. Not pretty.)  If you have previously colored your hair, the only way to go lighter is to use a powdered lightener (aka bleaches), but take caution, and go see your hairstylist for major color changes.
