I think for my cousin's bridal shower, we are going to throw a Life Aquatic themed party.

This will be a slumber party because most of the people invited will be from out of town, and she wanted to spend a fair amount of time with the guests.  We are all in our late 20s, early 30s and fairly crafty types.

Decorations:
-Her house is already kinda beach/fish themed.  They have a salt water tank and a turtle tank. So I don't think it would be too difficult to decorate... I'm thinking of putting cut out port windows (construction paper) on the windows.  I'd also set out all of their SCUBA stuff.

Food:
-I wouldn't really know what to serve, I'm thinking: sushi, veggies, fruit, cheese, oyster crackers, a cake, fish shaped cookies.....? Most likely we'll be drinking a lot- Bloody Marys, Margaritas, and wine.

Games/Activities:
-In addition to the lingerie she is receiving as gifts, I thought we could decorate some cheap bras/panties with pearls, starfish, seaweed, etc. for a crafty game/competition.

-I also thought of hiding a Jaguar Shark somewhere in the house and who ever finds it gets a prize.

-Maybe watch the movie

-Maybe hang out in the hot tub

Prizes/Favors:
-I'm going to knit up a red cap for each person.
-Each person will get a light blue shirt or tank top.
-I'm trying to figure out how to make up some Team Zissou cards for each person.
-I think one of the prizes could be a necklace like Eleanor wears in the film.

DEFINITELY get the sound track, it's so good.

I'd say stck with the red, light blue, and yellow color scheme to make the decor seem more coherent?

Maybe the invites could look like their special shoes or a dolphin or something that's in the movie and that you can put a quote from the movie next to it.

Movie trivia? After you watch it?

If the shower is like a recent shower I went to, you can rite down anything that could be construed as an innuendo and keep a runnng list... I bet the movie would have some funny ones, specially things NOT to say in bed like "Esteban!!" or "bulldikes can get pregnant too".  (i know, way to turn a cute idea into something dirty...)

hope this helps or at least gives you some food for thought!

What a fun theme idea! For the booze, maybe something blue to make it feel oceany, like Blue Hawaiians or something of the like.  You could print/enlarge an owen wilson photo and have a "pin the red beanie on ___" (I forget his name in the movie, it's been a while).  That would be especially amusing after much drinking has commenced.
I like lindsoriah's ideas about the color scheme and the soundtrack.
For food, you chould use regular party staples and just give them some oceany/movie related name.  Ie, meat and cheese wraps could be labeled Jaguar Shark Morsels.

Sounds fun, whatever you end up doing.  I hope my friends are that creative when I ever have a bridal shower.

it would be neat if you could somehow shape the food to look like fishes. like maybe fish shaped cookie cutters for cookies, and Goldfish crackers in teh colorful mix?
