I thought I saw something on about.crochet.com that had something very similar to that but in crochet. Any help will be appreciated.

I don't know how the actual pattern would be, but to me it looks like you could crochet a couple blocks in double crochet with a small shell border.

maybe do front post/back post dcs to get a similar texture

Do it in single, going into only the back loop every two stitches. Then go through the front loop of the stitches you made into the back loops on the way back. If that makes sense.  Undecided

Then the next two rows, you alternate.

You're essentially forming a basket weave. It won't look identical, but it will be really close.
