I collected a bunch of washed up crab parts on the beach this summer, and am just finally getting around to doing something with them.

I had envisioned a sort of coral and seaglass scheme for the beads to accompany the claw, but when I got to the bead store I found that their coral was all more vibrantly pinkish that I was really looking for.  I wanted something to compliment the muted orange on the underside of the claw, and found that actually some dyed howlite beads made a better match.  The faceted ovals on each side are the only actual coral beads in the necklace.

I have three more claws, and I'm considering whether I should make another necklace like this one with earrings to match, or if I should make something else for myself.

I love this! Over the Summer I picked up a few crab claws also and decided to soak them in bleach for a couple hours to kill germs and well... they kinda deteriated.  Cry

I have 2 questions for you. Did you clean they claw with anything? How did you make the hole to thread it on the necklace?

Thanks for the compliments guys Smiley

As for your questions:

No.  One of the really cool things about this beach was that everything on it was totally dried out and scoured.  I got about 10 perfect sand dollars as well, that were clean and dry with nothing on or in them.  I *think* it's because it was a really broad beach on an exposed point and the stuff had washed up high a while ago, so it had been bleaching in the sun and dried by the wind and picked at by animals until it was clean.  I did use a q-tip to swab some sand out from inside the claw, but that was just for looks.

I used a tiny burr bit on a dremel at high speed.  I just went at it gently and it made a hole like a dream.  Perfect and smooth with no chips.
