I'm in the Frederick/Hagerstown/Middletown area. Brunswick to be exact. But I work in washington county between Boonsboro and Hagerstown. haha When I saw the post describing the Hagerstown Joann's as "the armpit of hell" I hadn't thought of it that way before but I thought "yeah, that's about right." Frederick's Joann's is SOOOOO much better.

I am so glad to hear that it is not just my opinion. JoAnn in Frederick is a much better store, but it has it's own set of issues as well. When is somebody gonna get smart and give this region a proper fabrics & crafts joint?
Oh - I'm also glad to hear that I'm not alone out here.  Smiley

There is a fabric store just over the PA line when you go up 81. It's called Maryann's I think. It's run by a mennonite (sp?) woman. Packed with wall to wall fabrics. I drove up there once and it's got a nice selection.

I was just about to mention MJ Designs. I used to LOVE that store. Replacing it with JoAnn's doesn't cut it. When I was like 10 I used to get my pogs there, they had like these HUGE tubs of them. /end MJD love rant

I'm in Paserdena hon! I frequent Annapolis often and would like to go to B-more more often, but driving/parking there scares me. I'm desparately seeking a yarn shop that's not JoAnns or Michaels. Sigh.

The Yarn Garden in Annapolis has a good selection and friendly people.  The front part of the store is devoted to needlework (embroidery), and the back part is knitting yarn. The yarn is stacked all the way to the ceiling - I was feeling mildly claustrophobic the entire time I was there, wondering if it was going to fall on me.  I finally decided that being buried in an avalanche of yarn was probably a good way to go if it came to that, and stopped worrying Smiley

Anyway, I recommend it.  It's in a strip mall not too far off of 50.

I live in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County.  I make many trips to Frederick though and Keep me in stitches is one of my favorite places.  I am a crafter and knitter.  Not sure which one comes first, I guess it depends on the day.
