Hi!
After months of work, our website:  http://www.buttonarcade.com is complete!  I would love any feedback regarding how easy it is to navigate, understand, etc. Thank you thank you thank you!

I love the Belly Buttons!

The site is simple and simple is good.  The buttons are fabulous.  Fabulous is also good.

Thank you for your input!
I own and run http://www.buttonarcade.com , and the main page has always irked me.  We already have a splash page visitors have to click through, and I feel the main page should have more of our button designs posted to get people's attention.  Right now it has a long paragraph (I don't think anybody reads it), telling people about the site.  I think we should assume that only illiterate 8 year old children with ADHD are visiting our site (not that there is anything wrong with any or all of these things, but that is how I act when searching through sites).   Bf says bands need to know we have buttons for them, too.  Please help settle this! Thank you thank you thank you!! Smiley

I think you're right on all accounts, hon. Instead of a paragraph explaining stuff, how about:

Need buttons for your band? We can help!

make "we can help" the link to the faq. At least, that's how I would do it Smiley And put up some examples of band buttons.

I got this book called "Don't Make Me Think!" at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789723107/qid=1106344177/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-4913237-8319360?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It's a pretty basic guide but it has good points about making your website as usuable as possible. I've been trying to implement all the things for my website, but sometimes there is a sort of tug-of-war between design and usability. I think they don't have to be at odds, but it takes work to make everything harmonius.

However, the other thing to consider is making your site search-engine optimized.  In many cases, including Google, arguably the most useful and popular search engine, having text on your mainpage that helps identify you and your product will make your listing in higher for keywords associated with that product. Google crawls through almost exclusively visible text, so metatags, etc., don't mean much.  Having CONTENT on that mainpage is really quite important.  This is also the reason splash pages, while... splashy, aren't always good ideas.

Lothruin, I have a question for you:

You're saying that text on the main page is important b/c of google.  Can you point out some good examples of that, some sites where you feel they did a good job at dropping text in to generate a better search result?
