Wow!  I just bought some raw wool, now I need to wash it and dye it, then I can felt it right?  I need a felting needle, are there other things that I need?  If I can make something this amazing, I will be thrilled!  And my kids WILL play with it  Smiley

What kind of wool did you get? Most wool will felt (aside from superwash), but some are harder to needle felt.  A coarser wool like romney is better for a needle felting project like this. You can definitely needle felt with others....but if you bought merino you would want to steam it first to restore some crimp and make it easier to needle.
You really just need wool and felting needles....maybe some wire if you want a tree or a stronger cave opening (you can use pipe cleaners).
If you can figure a way to make a needle holder that holds a few needles together it will go much faster for you too.
good luck !

So beautiful, so much detail.

This had to be super time consuming! I adore it.
