I want to sew a felt applique onto one of my knitted scarves. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

It depends on the look you're going for and the guage of the knitting.

You can use doubled contrast thread and sew around the edges in either a whipstitch or chainstitch if you want the stitches to show, or you can use clear or matching thread and make small stitches around the entire applique.

As for the backing, if you want your scarf to be doublesided, you'll obviously have to either seam the sides together (to hide the applique stitching on the back side), sew it inside a tube-scarf from DPNs or circular needles, or simply wear it one-sided.

On a side note, make sure that your stitches are well within the edges of the felt as cheaper, thinner felt has the nasty habit of dropping stitches too far towards the edge.
