Betz White makes the most delightful cupcake pincushions created from beautiful colored wool felt and sweaters. I fell in love with her pincushions so with a Borders coupon in hand, I happily skipped along to buy her book, WARM FUZZIES.

My eyes dazed looking through her book. I wistfully stared at the pictures and through the list of materials and then reality hit me. I cried, "where the hell can I find wool sweaters in Hawaii?!?" After much dismay, I sadly put the book away.

Oh, but the craft fairy heard my cry. For a moment I heard her voice murmuring in my ear..."go to Walmart." "What? Now? But I'm watching TV." Well, I am not one to ignore the craft fairy.

I wandered in Walmart not sure what I was looking for. As I approached the accessories section, the air changed, sensitizing my craft radar. Then, oh baby, I spotted just what I needed for the pincushions. CHEAP SOCKS!!

I followed the instructions in Betz's book and turned CHEAP SOCKS into beautiful pincushions. Thank you, Craft Fairy (and Betz).

And if that wasn't enough of socks, here's a gift card holder made from a single sock. The beauty of this project = NO MEASURING and the cost?..only 50 cents!

Awww...this is too "sweet." Wink I love the cupcake, and since I am on a diet it is tempting me to go out and get a sugary snack.  But, instead I will just sit here and admire your cupcake.  You did a great job!

How cool is this!
I live where you can find sweaters in thrift stores but it is hard to find wool ones and
never in these pastel colours. So this is just plain brilliant!

Can  you tell me how many socks did it take to make one cupcake?

The gift card holder could also be made and modified to be a wallet/change purse.

These projects are real idea gardens. Smiley

Hi Folks!

UPDATE --- I just remembered one more step -- Before rolling the two socks into the pincushion, fold each sock lengthwise, then place one sock on top of the other.

Sorry that I did not check back on my posting on the sock cupcakes ...thank you all for your feedback!!

The cupcakes are made with two socks rolled together.

Roll as tightly as you can then sew the ends to secure. Before sewing, I decided to cut off a little off the ends just even them up and remove some of the bulk.  Kind of messy looking with the raw edges..but read on. I decided to also cut a little off on the bottom to get the cupcake to sit straight.  Again kind of messy looking.  This is how I craft...heh.

Okay, then to hide all the messy messy, I made a 'sock' for the pincushion.

I cut the top of another sock... around a 1 1/2" length for the size of the cupcake that I made....the length has to be long enough to pull up on the sides of the cupcake and to allow for sewing the bottom :   I gathered and sewed the raw ends to form the 'sock'. Put the pincushion into the 'sock' and voila....

Hope this makes sense.
